Fira - Firostefani.   The name of santorini's capital comes from the ancient Greek word '' pyrros'' which is the colour of iron and fire. These colors of re and ochre are so richly illustrated in the cliff face on which the town is perched with spectacular ciew over the volcano and the nearby islands.

The creation of Santorini is the result of volcanic activities , which last it entrire mileniums. These volcanic activities created a island with a total area of 103 km² and according to Herodotus (Greek historian, lived 484 bc to 425bc) this island called strongily (the circular one) due it's shape. The last high volume explotion of the volcano around 1650 BC made a big part of the island to collapsed into the sea and the water covered the abyss which was created with a initial depth of 800 meters.

AKROTIRI-RED BEACH
Red as the name implies, this beach is located in a setting that seems almost unreal. Soaring red lava cliffs dropping sharply into the black sandy shore and into the clear blue sea, make this a sight to remember. A nearby hotel provides snacks and meals and there is access by boat to other beaches of the southern coast.
